Dear Mr. Rusche:

In response to the February 16, 1976 Federal Register notice concerning 10CFR50.55a and your letter dated April 26, 1976, a review has been conducted of Oconee Nuclear Station, Unit 1, to determine the extent to which conformance with the provisions of 10CFR50.55a is practicable within the limitations of design, geometry and materials of construction.

Attachments 1, 2 and 3 provide the basis for conformance which it is considered practicable to meet for inservice inspection of Code Class 1, 2 and 3 components, valves and pumps. This inspection will begin on November 15, 1976 for Oconee 1 and will utilize the ASFE Section XI Code through the summer 1975 addenda.

It is requested pursuant to 10CFR50.90 that the Oconee Nuclear Station Technical Specifications be revised to incorporate provisions of compliance with 10CFR50.55a for Oconee 1. The changes to the Technical Specifications also delete existing areas of testing for Oconee 1 which will be enco= passed in the provisions of 10CFR50.55a and other specifications which are no longer applicable. The changes are identified by vertical lines in the margins of the Technical Spec ication replacement pages in Attachment 4 of this letter.
