The attached report of an inspection of the subject facilities by our inspectors on f'eptember 9-12, 1969, is forwarded for information. Our l
inspectors' in-depth spot-check review of welding practices revealed The items pertained to PT practices and three itens of nonconformance.

the qualification of weldors and welding procedures G and H of report). We are favorably imprecsed with Duke's overall welding program and are confident that appropriate action will be teken to correct the three deficiencies detected during the in-depth review.
Two lots of defective Cadweld powder were received from the manufacturer, (Ref: Inquiry Menorandum - Duke Power Ccepany, dated September 16,1969.)
Although the defective lots could have caused a serious problan, the li-t censee's prompt action apparently precluded the embe0 ment of any defective splices.
Extensive laminations have been detected in one heat of containment liner It is si6nificant plate recently erected for the Unit 1 containment done.
