, applicable quality standards had not been met for certain socket welds on I

McGuire Unit I and 2.

! This item, was originally identified in NRC IE Inspection Raport Number l 50-370/80-01 as Infraction Number 370/80-01-01. The item and the correc-

! tive action taken for this item are described in Mr. William O. Parker, Jr. 's

! letters to Mr. J. P. O'Reilly dated March 5, 1930, March 27, 1980 and '

April 10, 1980.

I l Analysis of Safety Implications:

! The existence of undersized welds in a system could have resulted in a com-promise of system integrity. Failure of one or more of these welds could potentially result in loss of system function. On McGuire Unit I and 2 the involved systems are the auxiliary feedwater system, the component cooling system, the reactor coolant system, safety injection system and the chemical and volume control system. In addition, on McGuire Unit 2 only, the nuclear-

sampling system, the nuclear service water system and the main steam supply

to auxiliary equipment are affected.

Corrective Action:

3 Corrective action is as stated in the attached letters. The status of the.

corrective action is as follows. Weld buildup is complete in McG. ire Unit 1

] and 2. The schedule for ccmpleting rehydro will be met e:: cept fot the chemical and volume control system welds on Unit 1. The hydro on these welds will be

} completed by August 1, 1980 instead of May 16, 1980.
