April 15, 1980 Docket No. 50-302 MEMORANDUM FOR: Harold R. Denton, Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation THRU:
Darrell G. Eisenhut, Acting Director, Division of Operating Reactors FROM:
William P. Gamill, Acting Assistant Director for Operating Reactor Projects
SUBJECT:
GREEN TICKET NO. 08709 FROM MR. & MRS. M. N. FESTA TO CHAIRMAN AHEARNE DATED FEBRUARY 29, 1980 On April 10, 1980 the Project Manager for Crystal River 3 (CR-3) telephoned Mr. Festa at home in Criskill, NJ to discuss his concerns about a home pur-chase in Port Richey, FL, about 45 miles south of CR-3.
He was assured that the NRC places great emphasis on the safety of operation of nuclear plants.
He was told that there were no releases from CR-3 during or after the inci-dent.
He was concerned about the coolant released to the containment; he was told it was processed and stored onsite, not released to surrounding waters. His remaining questions about the locations of other nuclear plants in Florida were answered.
Mr. Festa stated he was very pleased to have the government call him back and that he felt better about his home purchase. He said he preferred the phone call to a letter response and that he doesn't want a written reply.
