Fairobent, staff acteorologist, met trith A. Horneaultrand D. Mcifullin of FPC, and R. Stoner of NUS, to discuss current and planned catcorological facilities at Crystal River.

The evatcarological tow is approximately 1000' vest of the nearest building, Unit 2, which is tha highest building onsite at 191', in a regica currently used as a scrap area. The strip charts are sent to NUS veekly for reduction, with stability classification inferred from censurement of sigma-theta. Examination of the data leg and correspondence between FPO cnd NJ' S ink'. cates a data recovery of 97% at the 150' icvel and 951 at the 35' icyc1 for the period 12/71 - 12/72, and a 99% data recovery at both Icvels for the period 4/72 - 5/73. On July 6, 1973, Pr. Fairchent met with 3. DuBois, et al of ??C, and A. DcAg.;2L) of :!US to discuss the su'4ttal of additional ceteorological data, tn.s upgrading of the matcarological f acilities to meet the recccmen-datious of F.caulatory Guide 1.23, and provisions to ronitor meteorological parameters in the control roo.a. Guide 1.13, nor was there a cocmaitmsmt to monitor meteorological parac:eters in the control room, although the applicant stated that both were currently under review by FPC management. FPC is to notify the AEC of any decisione pertaining to these issues. Massrs. H. R. Dentot*(Assistant Director-Site Safety), L.C. Hulman (staff Itydraulic Engineer),and D. E. Hucn (consultant) met with representatives of the applicant, their A/I (Gilbert Associates, Inc.) and their consultant (Demos & Moore) to discuss staff questions relating to plant hurricane protection. The preliminary results of studies requested by the staff to support the design hurricane surge estimate were susunarised by Domes & Hoore representatives. The hurricane protection requirements for the FPC estimated design conditions and those estimated by the staff were discussed by Gilbert Associates, Inc. representatives. The applicant provided a detail d site and ple.nt tour, including the area betroen the plant and the Gulf, durin;; which the vulnerability of plant structures to hurricanus was discussed.
