Subject:
50-302 Crystal River Unit #3
Dear Mr. Knuth:
., In accordance with 10 CFR 50.55 (e), we wish to advise you that the possible deficiency reported verbally to you on
. December 17, 1975, is now considered as being verified as
. &=ev L.L1= a=fivla..vy.
We presently hav. Jovuiiiei. Lea four valvos in safety-related systems with bent valve stems of Type 316 stainless steel material.
We are
' verifying the possible existence of other similar occurrances.
The manufacturer (Walworth/Aloyco) has advised us that valves with Type 316 stainless steel stems are not suitable for service with quick-closing operators.
We have, therefore, ordered new valve stems for all Walworth and Aloyco valves at Crystal River Unit
- 3 with operators of 10 seconds or less closing time.
Our new stems will be manufactured from ASTM-A564 Grade 360-COND.-H-ll50-material.
At the present time, delivery dates for the above stems have not been finalized.
It is our opinion that the change to the new material will-eliminate this particular problem.
Very truly yours, l
