Biomass of fish and shellfish impinged on the intake screens of i

Units 1, 2 and 3 exceeded the 50 kg/24hr reporting level of section 3.1.3 of the Environnental Technical Specifications.

Conditions Prior to Occurrence:

Unit #1 - All water circulation pumps operational.

Unit #2

'All water circulation pumps operational.

Unit #3 - One of four water circulation pumps was non-operational from 0125-0612 on 7/1/77.

Description of Occurrence:

.During the period 1000 June 30,1977 to 1000 July 1,1977 88.2.1 kg of fish and shellfish were impinged on the intake screens of Crystal River Units 1, 2 and 3.

Of the 88.21 kg impinged, Unit 3 accounted for 42.54 kg (48% of total). Jne comercially unimportant species, the batfish accounted for 71.79 kg (81% of total).. One comercially utilized species, the blue crab accounted for 9.22 kg (10% of total). The

remaining biomass impinged was distributed among several species of fish and shellfish.

Designation of Apparent Cause.of Occurrence:

The following unusual or periodic event was noted during the occurrence:.

A dredge perfoming canal maintenance entered and exited the

intake canal on June 30, 1977.

This event may.have been partially responsible for the impinge-g ment observed.
