Occurrence Date: June 9-10, 1977 4.
tdcutification of Occurrence:
Blumass of finh azul shellfish impinged on t he intake screens of Units 1, 2 and 3 exceeded thu 50 kg/24hr reporting level of section 3.1.3 of the Environmental Technical Specifications.

Conditions Prior to Occurrence:

Unit #1 - All water circulation pumps operational.
Unit #2 - One of four water circulation pumps non-operational (1 hour1.157407e-5 days <br />2.777778e-4 hours <br />1.653439e-6 weeks <br />3.805e-7 months <br />).
Unit #3 - All water circulation pumps operational.

Description of occurrence:
During the period 1000 June 9,1977 to 1000 June 10,1977 75.10 kg of fish and shellfish were impinged on the intake screens of Crystal River Units 1, 2 and 3.
Of the 75.10 kg i
impinged, Unit 3 ' account'ed for 18.14 kg (23% of total). One commercially unimportant species, the batfish accounted for 68.10 kg (86% of total).
Two commercially utilized species, the pink shrimp and the blue crab accounted for 5.55 kg (7%
of total).
Impingement of all other commercially utilized species was less than L kg during the period in question. The

remaining biomass impinged was distributed among several species -
of fish and shellfish.
7.
Designation of Apparent Cause of Occurrence:
The following unusual or periodic events were noted prior to or during the ocourrence:
1.
One coal barge left intake canal ~ at 0825 on 6/9/77.
2.
A dredge performing canal maintenance entered the intake canal at 1430 on 6/9/77 and left at 2025 on 6/9/77.
These events may have been partially responsible for the impingement observed.
