SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION

3. Report Date: 3 July 1977
4. Occurrence Date: 16 June 1977
5. Identification of Occurrence: .

Failure to have two emergency feedwater pumps available and operable from two independent power sources contrary to Technical Specification 3.7.1.2.b.

6. Conditions Prior to Occurrence:

Mode 1 power operation.

7. Description of Occurrence:

During manual operation of the steam driven emergency feedwater pump the outboard pump bearing failed. The pump was removed from service and the 3 twelve hour Technical Specification Action Statement was entered at 1655.

Repairs were initiated and the steam driven emergency feedwater pump was returned to manual operation at 0010~ 17 June 1977.

8. Designation of Apparent Cause:

Failure of the pump outboard bearing.

9. Analysis of Occurrence:

There were no adverse safety consequences resulting from this occurrence as the motor dri9en emergency feedwater pump was available and operable.

10. Corrective Action:

None required as bearing failure ' attributed to normal wear.

11. Failure Data:

The inoperability of the steam driven emergency feedwater pump is repetitive.
