The Commission

  • reviewed the December 20, 1979 draft text of the Policy, Planning and Program Guidance Document for Fiscal Years 1982-1986.

The Comission approved the following 19 major program areas which are tc be addressed in the Program Guidance section of the NRC's Policy, Planning, and Program Guidance (PPPG) document that is now in preparation:

Fire Protection, Power Reactor Casework, Unresolved Safety Issues, Systematic Evaluation Program, Operating Reactor knendments, Waste Management, D0mestic Safeguards, Fuel Cycle

& Material Safety, Spent Fuel Storage, Transportation, Decomissioning, Health Effects from Low Level Radiation, Qualification of Safety-Related Equipment, Revised Inspection Program, Risk Assessment, Long Range Research Plan, Internatio.ul Efforts, Emergency Planning, and Operational Data Analysis.

Draft writeups for each of these program areas should be submitted for Commission review as soon as practical following the program presentations by lead office directors to the EDO.

The Comission directed OPE to identify and present to the Commission a list of major issues (questions) for which policy guidance should be developed.
