MAIN STEAM PIPE SPOOLS 10CFR50.55(e), " POTENTIAL SIGNIFICANT DEFICIENCY"
'NO. 1 UNIT HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION On December 21, 1979, a verbal report was made to Region 1, Office of Inspection and Enforcement representative, Mr. R. McGaughy, advising of a potential significant item.
The referred item was a less than minimum wall thickness found on a main steam pipe spool supplied by General Electric.
Supplemental information was issued to your office on January 31, 1980.
The supplemental information indicated that General Electric was continuing their investigation and that a report would be issued to you by March 1 1980.
This interim report provides status of l
investigative and, corrective actions.
General Electric has issued instructions to direct the weld repair l
co restore the affected wall thickness to the original General Electric specification requirement.
This is considered acceptable corrective action.

Mr. Boyce H. Grier 3/3/80 The investigation regarding the question of reportability to the NRC as a significant deficiency remains under investigation.
Evaluation is expected to be completed and a final report made to you by March 21, 1980.
