SURFACE INDICATION - RPV NO. 2 10CFR50.55(e), "SIGNIFICANT DEFICIENCY" NO. 2 UNIT HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION On December 13, 1979 a verbal report was made to Region 1, Office of Inspection and Enforcement representative, Mr. R. McGaughy, advising of a potential significal:t item regarding a s.rface indication on Reactor Pressure Vessel No.

2.

The following supplemental information is hereby submitted pursuant to our initial report and in accordance with the require-ments of 10CFR50.55(e).

A surface indication was found on the Unit 2 RPV approximately one inch in diameter.

The indication has several porous cavities, approximately 1/64" - 1/32" deep and four tiny linear indications.

General Electric issued a Field Deviation Disposition Report (FDDR) on January 11, 1980 directing investigation of the indication.

Grier 1/21/80 The investigation will be accomplished by grinding, in.020 inch increments, with PT examination between each increment until the indication is removed.

The investigation will be performed by General Electric.

A subsequent FDDR will be issued should any repair be required.

General Electric will provide our Architect /

Engineer, Bechtel Power Corporation with the results of this investigation.

After our review and acceptance of Bechtel's evaluation, a more definitive report shall be sent to you by February ll, 1980.
