SUMMARY
OF SEPTEMBER 9, 2019, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS KAIROS POWER LLCs REGULATORY ANALYSIS TOPICAL REPORT On September 9, 2019, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a Category 1 public meeting with Kairos Power LLC (Kairos) to discuss NRC staff comments on the Kairos Regulatory Analysis for the Kairos Power Fluoride Salt-Cooled, High Temperature Reactor Topical Report (ADAMS Accession No. ML19024A483). The meeting was held via teleconference and comprised open and closed portions as follows:
- Open portion to review the scope of the report and the schedule for the staffs review reusing slides from a November 7, 2018 meeting (ADAMS Accession No. ML18309A299)
- Closed portion to discuss the proprietary portion of the report The NRC staff comments were transmitted via email on August 15, 2019 (ADAMS Accession No. ML19228A233) and were meant to serve the following purposes:
- Obtaining clarification regarding material in the topical report
- Promptly identifying areas for additional information
- Facilitating discussions and continuation of effective communication During the open portion of the meeting, staff from Kairos reviewed the purpose of the topical report and discussed its relation to other reports submitted by Kairos. There was a brief discussion with the NRC staff and no questions or comments from the public.
B. Besley 2 The closed portion of the meeting consisted of a systematic review of the NRC staff questions. Kairos staff stated their interpretation of each question and this was confirmed or corrected by the cognizant NRC staff. After discussing all the questions, Kairos proposed to update the topical report and submit a revision by October 31, 2019.
After the meeting, the NRC staff sent Kairos a letter dated September 17, 2019 (ADAMS Accession No. ML19255H234) confirming this proposed course of action.
