Accepted radiolcgical centrol practices dictate that every reasonable effort be cade to conduct cparations in a nanner that uould maintain the pote: tial f er inadecrtant releases of radioactive material and exposure to persenne] as lou as practicable. This practice is supported in principle by 10 CFR 20.1, " Purpose."
Contrary to the above,the methods used to cellect gas sanples frc the uaste gas sur; e drun (decav tank) allcu the pessibility of in dvertant relcare and perscruel exposure in that ga sa ples are taken into rubber ballens directly frcn the high pressure (50-c0 psi) surge drum and also into an aluminun cylinder of unknvun integrity.
