66'(0$0' Drssden/ound Cities /Pileries Plants - Drift of Pressure Switch Og.
Set Point P (j Dr. Rosen described the _svitch set-point drift experience at h
various plants and noted that incident reports had not been g
g-accumulated prior to this year because this was not previously D -dfD recognized as a reportable occurrence. He informed the Cec =1ttee
? ", 7 that:
Y 3J7 j o_Barksdale switches appear to be susceptible to drift iO' difficulties and G2 has i=ple=ented a program with the vendor to solve the problem.
Very few drift incidents have been reported for PWR's.
o One reason may be that the recalibration procedure for PWR's does not include the pressure sensing element (not a system calibration).
REC is establishing a program ~to review and evaluate o
drift incident reports.

The applicant has proposed that a li=ited nu=ber of manual resets of trip points, esde deliberately in accordance with explicit procedures, by i
, approved personnel, independently monitored, and v'.th settings to be cali-bruted and tested, should provide an ecceptable basis for the occasional operation of Indian Point Unit No. 2 uith only three of the four reactor l
loops in service. The Cocsittee concurs in this position.

%e Cc::nittee needs to cortplete its review of the suitability of the new 16 x 16 fuel and raodified core reactivity centrols of the Reference System-80 design which are new scheduled for initial proof testing at Arkansas Nuclear Che, Unit tb. 2 and at St. Lucie Plant, Unit Ib. 2. He Cc:nnittee also needs to,cc=plete its review of the new core protection calculator syste:a and the ccr puter-based core operating limit supervisory system which will be incorporated into the Reference System-80 design in the event they are successfully derenstrated at Arkansas Nuclear Che, Unit Ib. 2.
2e Comittee needs to be assured of the dep2ndability of in-core neutrcn flux sensors for control of reactors operating at Icw core sc.nr peaking factors.
For this purpose the Co: nittee rtu.. mends that the Staff and the Applicant continue to gather pertinant infor:ation from operating CE reactors.
Se Cc:nnittee will continue its review of these matters as appropriate Jocu:nentation is subnitted and the improve:mnts sought can be evaluated.
