CTrammell We have reviewed your correspondence of October 3,1975, which addressed the subject of Main Steam Isolation Valves (MSIV's). The information provided adequately addresses the issue of MSIV design, and we concur with your conclusion that the MSIV's at Three Mile Island Unit I can withstand a sudden closure which would result from an instantaneous release of pressure upstream of the valves. Enclosed is a safety evaluation addressing this matter.
