APPENDIX A NOTICE OF VIOLATION Northeast Nuclear Energy Company Docket No. 50-336 Based on the results of an NRC inspection conducted on February 12-15, 1979, it appears that one of your activities was not conducted in full compliance with NRC regulations as indicated below.
Item A is a Deficiency.
A.
10 CFR 20.203, " Caution signs,. labels, signals, and controls,"
requires in Section (e) that, "(1) Each area or room in which licensed material is used or stored and which contains any radio-active material (other than natural uranium or thorium) in an amount exceeding 10 times the quantity of such material specified in Appendix C of this part shall be conspicuously posted with a sign or signs bearing the radiation caution symbol and the words:
I CAUTION RADI0ACTIVEMATERIAL(S)
Contrary to this requirement, on February 12, 1979, the 38' 6" elevation of the Unit 2 Auxiliary Building contained stored radio-active materials in amounts exceeding 10 times the quantity specified in Appendix C of 10 CFR 20 and the area was not posted with a sign or signs bearing the words " Caution, Radioactive Materials."
Access to this area was controlled by locked gates and posted as a
" Caution, Radiation Area."
