SGPL r/f Reference is made to your letter dated March 21, 1979 to l'r. John M. Lovelady, Assistant Director, Regulatory Reports Review, U. S. General Accounting Office.
I have reviewed your letter and discussed the proposals described therein with you on April 18, 1979 at this office. Your request regarding the record keeping requirements found in 10 CFR 40.G1 are valid. Ve have determined that those records required in this section for naterial control and accounting under 10 CFR 40.61(c)(3) and (4) shall be retained for a period of five years unless these records are part of an investigation in which case they shall be retained until the investigation has been concluJed and the NRC authorizes their disposal, in writing.
Please note that this letter authorizes disposal of only those records used for material control and accounting. Any records naintained by GE for use under more than one 3RC or other legal requireraent nay require longer retention under those regulations.
I have initiated review action for othar points raised in your letter.
