Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

On September 24, 1979, a report was made under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e) concerning a potential unreviewed safety question based on Westinghouse information that the performance of non-safety grade equipment subjected to an adverse environment could impact the protect-tive functions perfomed by safety grade equipment.

In accordance with the reporting requirements of 10CFR21, the fol-lowing infomation is submitted:

Description of defect, deficiency, or failure to comply:

Westinghouse has informed Vepco that as part of a continuing review of the environmental qualifica-tions of Westinghouse supplied equipment, four (4) systems were identified which, if subjected to an adverse environment, could potentially lead to control system operation which may impact protec-tive functions. These systems are:

2) Pressurizer power operated relief valve control system
3) Main feedwater control system
4) Automatic rod control system E.

Corrective action which has been, is being or will be taken, the in-dividual responsible and the length of time to complete the action:

Westinghouse has provided Vepco the information on the basis for these concerns and we are now reviewing these systems for North Anna Unit 2 to detemine if any unreviewed safety questions or deficiences exist. The review will be complete and the results available in our 30-day report.
