Consumers Power Company General Offices: 212 West Michigan Avenue, Jackson, Michigan 4920t e Area Code 517788-0550 January 19, 1979 Director, Nuclear Reactor Regulation Att: Mr Dennis L Ziemann, Chief Operating Reactors Branen No 2 US :iuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 DOCKET 50-155 - LICENSE DPR BIG ROCK POIHT PLANT - ADDITIONAL IHFOPP.ATION REGARDING SEP TOPICS VI-7 3, VII-1.A AhD VII-2 Your letter dated October 26, 1978 requested Consumers Power Company to provide additional information regarding three Systematic Evaluation Program (SEP.) topics. The three topics involved in your request were:
(1) Topic VI-7.B, " Engineered Safety Featree (ESP) Switchover From Injection to Recirculation Mode (Automatic ECCS Rec.lignment)," (2) Topic VII-1.A, " Isolation of Reactor Protection System From Hon-Safety Systems, Including Qualification of Isolation Devices," and (3) Topic VII-2, "ESF System Logic and Design."
Your requests for additional information and Consumers Power Company's responses are provided below:
Item 1 - Topic VI-T.3 Provide schematics for the automatic controllers used (if any) to perform the changeover from ECCS injection to recirculation mode.
Resuonse This switchever is performed manually at Big Rock Point. Automatic controllers are not used.

2 Item 2 - Topic VII-1.A Provide drawings and schematics whien show:
A.
How the Reactor Protection System gets its input signals.
B.
How the other system inputs are isolated from the Reactor Protection System inputs.
Resconse Consumers Power Ccmpany considers tnat this information can be best provided in a meeting with the technical review personnel. Please advise us of acceptable dates for scheduling such a meeting.
Item 3 - Topic VII-2 Provide a list of the diesel generator loads which are to be supplied under various conditions, including:
A.
Normal operation, including normal shutdown.
B.
LOCA.
C.
Other emerg'ncy situations.
Provide details of automatic load sequencing system or equipment (if any).
Pesponse In the event that station power is lost, the emergency diesel generstor engine vill be started by undervoltage Relays 27-1 and 27-2.
When the generator comes up to speed, the h80 volt Motor Control Center (MCC) 2B will be energized due to automatic closure of the emergency generator Air Circuit Breaker ( ACB).
Selected loads from MCC-1A and MCC-2A are added manually.
Attached is a tabular listing of those loads connected to the diesel generator under tne following conditions:
(1) Loss of off-site power without concurrent Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA) and (2) loss of off-site power coincident with a LOCA.
It must be noted that in most cases, nameplate ratings of motors and transformers are conservatively listed. Further, various loads are inter-mittent in nature, such as valve positioning.
The poscibility of all loads operating simult.aneously is judged to be highly unlikely.
