Serial No. 480 January 10, 1979 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attn:
Mr. Robert W. Reid, Chief Operating Reactor Branch No. 4 Division of Operating Reactors U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.
20555
Dear Mr. Reid:
Your letter dated December 20, 1978 requested additional information and confirmation of dates for completing the modifications being made at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station Unit 1 to implement the Fire Hazard Analysis Report.
The first paragraph of your letter asked that we identify the areas where specific modifications remain to be completed.
There were 14 specific categories included in my letter of December 12, 1978, Serial No. 473.
Item 11 on that letter should read " Portable Radio Communication is being made available for 33 rooms or areas".
The breakdown of the 14 categories of modifications or additions to be made are delineated on the attached list.
In accordance with License Condition 2.C.(3)(h) we are scheduling comple-tion of tL_;? modifications by April 22, 1980. However, it should be noted that our first refueling outage, during which some of these modifi-cations must be accomplished, is presently set for mid-March thru mid-Fby, 1980. We have scheduled completion of the fire protection modifica-tions for the service water pump and valve rooms for July 1, 1979, and we will make every effort to meet that date.
The date for providing the procedures for backup to the service water system from the circulating water system is February 28, 1979.
Yours ve y truly, t
