ENCLOSURE SEQUOYAll NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 OMITTED LATERAL RESTRAINT ON CVCS PIPING SYSTEM NCR CEB 78-2 F_INAL REPORT
_D_escription of Deficiency During the final check of the design of the high precsure CVCS piping system in the auxiliary building, a lateral restraint, which is needed during a seismic event, was discovered to have been omitted.
The omission resulted from the load for the restraints being inadvertently omitted from the load tables when the tables were c9mpiled. One lateral restraint was omitted on each unit.
Spiety Implications If this condition had~gone uncorrected, the CVCS line could become over-stressed and fail during a seismic event.
This line is a normal charging J ine and is used during normal operation.
Thus, had this condition gone uncorrected, it could have adversely affected plant safety.
Corrective Actioni TVA has corrected the design load tables and is in the process of designing the omitted lateral restraints.
Design, fabrication, and installation will be completed by April 1, 1979.
