Plant staff reviewed similar transients and presented to B&W 4/6/79 Final coments to be available J/9/79, b.

Review and Revision of Operating end Maintenance Procedures (Items 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9,10 of IEB 79-05A):

Item 3: Licensee has reviewed station procedures, Some have been implemented, and nther recomendations are being considered.

Item 4: Operators have been made aware of RCP, HPI, and LPI considerations of, IE-B 79-05A. (Para 4).

Draf t procedures have been written.

Item 5: Licensee completed alignment checks of ECCS and EFW on 4/4/79.

Item 7:

No manual vailes exist in the main str,eam. Additional controls are under review.

Item 8:

Procedures already exist to assure two independent auxiliary feed water flow paths to the point of tie to main feed line.

STATUS OF INSPECTCK DISCUSSIONS WITH PLANT PERSONNEL:

NRC training completed for three full shifts and part.of 4th (29 of 41 operators). Assignments made to cover training with remaining operators prior to their shifts on 4/9-10.

Held lengthly discussions with 7-8 operators (2 shifts) on RCP seal leakage problems.

~4 DESCRIPTION OF GENERAL PLANT STATUS (i.e., operating power level, planned changes, scheduled outages, E5F out of service, major maintenance, reportable occurrences, etc.)

Plant operating at 75% power (one RCS pump shutdown due to seal leakage.

Apparently seal on shutdown RCP partially reseated at 2130 hours0.0247 days <br />0.592 hours <br />0.00352 weeks <br />8.10465e-4 months <br /> on 4/7 as indicated by increase in 3rd stage pressure (0 to 500 psi) and decrease in leakage (3.228 to 2.125 gpm). Control seal return leakage-returned to normal (0.75 gpm).

Refueling outage is scheduled to begin 4/23.
