Gentlemen:

As partial response to IE Bulletin No. 79-03, the following information is submitted:

1.

Our investigation revealed that some ASME SA-312, Type 304 longitudinal welded pipe manufactured by Youngstown Welding and Engineering Company is installed in safety-related systems in both units, including the decay heat removal system, safety injection syatem and containment spray system.

2.

We are in the procen of identifyir.g the location of the subject pipe. A complete summary including the system application, pipe location, pipe size and design pressure / temperature requirements will be submitted to you by May 14, 1979, as committed in our letter of April 12, 1979.

3.

Development of a program for volumetric examination of the longitudinal welds and* acceptance criteria has begun. We will provide a schedule for full development of this program to you by May 14, 1979.
