Summer Nucl ar Station Gentlemen: Enclosed herewith are tables and figures which update the piezometer and settlement readings of the Service dater Intake Structure and Pumphouse through January 31, 1979. These tables ans figures, which supplement Report No. 2, Settlement Effects and Related Work, dated June 28, 1978, and our previous update of October 23, 1978, include the following: Table 3A: Summary of Service Water Pumphouse Settlement Readings (2 sheets) Table 10A: Settlement Readings, Service Water Intake Struc-ture Masts Table ll: West Embankment Piezometer Data Table 12: West Embankment Settlement Monument Data Figure 9A: Settlement Monitoring Data, Service Water Pumphouse Figure 24: Survey Mast Monitoring Data, Service Water Intake Structure Figure 25: Piezometer Location Plan and Profiles Figure 26: West Embankment Piezometer Data Consu:t ng Eng.neers Geolog:sts and Enuronmental Sc.entists Offces in Other Pnnopal Cit es

'Noodward Clyde Consultants South Carolina Electric & Gas Company February 8, 1979 Page two The settlement da ta indicate that after some ini-tial downward movement due to filling the Service W-ter Pond in February and March, 1978, the Pumphouse rebounded about 0.5 to 0.6 inches f rom March through August, 1978, since which time movement has essentially ceased. The monitoring masts indicate that the Intake Structure also rebounded about 0.5 to 0.6 inches between March and July, 1978, and rebounded an additional approx-imately 0.1 to 0.2 inches between July and November, 1978. The Intake Structure movement appears to have essentially ceased since November, 1978. The piezometer data indicate that the groundwater level within the West Embankment continuer to rise in response to the filling of Monticello Reservoir and the Service Water Pond. At the present rate, it appears that an additional 6 to 12 months, or more, will be required before equilibrium condi-tions are obtained. Table 12 is a new table which provides the vertical movement of monuments installed adjacent to each Wes t Embank-ment Piezometer. The da ta obtained thus far is sparse but it appears tha t the embankment surface is generally rising slightly, as expected, consistent with the rising piezometric levels. If we may provide any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us. Very truly yours, WOODWARD-CLYDE CONSULTANTS ++/ Mv Frank S.
