Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

In your subject inspection reports, you identified two deficiencies and one infraction and requested a report be filed within twenty days of our receipt of the reports.

Duke Power Company's responses to the two deficiencies are attached. The third item is under study; Duke will submit a responte to this infraction by January 15, 1979.

9 DUKE RESPONSES TO INSPECTION REPORTS 50-491/78-8, 50-492/78-8, 50-493/78-8 A.

DEFICIENCY 491, 492, 493/78-08-01 Aggregate Stockpile Overflow 1.

All spilled aggregate was in the non-recoverable part of the stockpile and was therefore not used. The stockpile overflow has been cleaned up and the stockpile drawn down.

2.

The aggregate ordering policy has been changed to prevent any future over-ordering and stockpile levels will be monitored to assure no overfilling takes place.

3.

All corrective action is complete.

B.

INFRACTION 491, 492, 493/78-08 Seives Duke will file a response to this item by January 15, 1979.

C.

DEFICIENCY 491, 492, 493/78-08 Vault Fire Control 1.

In the interim, hand-held fire extinguishers are available in the vault area which is continually monitored during normal working hours. During other than normal working hours, the fire rated vault is secured, and a continuous security force wiTT initiate fire fighting action should a fire develop.

2.

An appropriate Halon fire protection system is on order.

3.

Barring any shipping delays, the system will be installed and full compliance achieved by March 1,1979.
