In response to your letter of Dec aber 12, 1979, concerning your inspection of our facilities conducted November 27-30, 1979, and pursuant to the provi-sions of Section 2.201, Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations the following conrnnts are made:

Although an incorrect criticality limit sign was posted at the washing machine work station, the washing machine operation was being conducted in acwrdance with the appropriate operating procedure. An investigation revealed that an improper sign was inadvertently placed on the washing nuchine. We agree that pro-per posting of criticality limit signs is important to enhance criticality safety.

The scrap recove.ry supervisor was notificd of the problan, ard took actions inmediately to replace the sign with the proper one.

In addition to the above corrective action, the following has been performed:

1.

All Controlled Area supervisors wure re-instructed of the im-portance of proper criticality limit sign posting.

2.

Poutine inspections of the plant have sphasized criticality

~

limit sign posting to assure proper implemntation. No unusual problms have been encountered.

Consequently, we feel that this was an isolated event and that the appropriate response has been made.
