Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station Docket No. 50/395 Comparison of Seismic Response Spectra
Dear Mr. Denton:
South Carolina Electric & Cas Company, acting for itself and as agent for South Carolina Public Service Authority, herewith files five (5) copies of a report entitled " Comparison of the August 27, 1978, Monticello Reservoir darthquake Response Spectra to the Operating Basis Earthquake Response Spectra for the Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station." This report is submitted at the request of Ms. Phyllis Sobel of NRC Geoscience Branch.
The Applicant was also requested by the staff to make a similar compari-son of the OBE Response Spectra associated with a second seismic event occurring on October 27, 1978. To date, even after repeated attempts, Applicant has not yet been able to obtain the necessary data from USGS on this particular earth-quake in order to perform the evaluation.
The Applicant does feel that the comparison presented in this report should adequately respond to the NRC requests for information since the August 27, 1978, earthquake produced the highest ground motion acceleration recorded to date. This information h pgviously been identified in our letters to you Janhary 5, 1979.
