Dear Mr. Denton:

North Anna Power Station Unit 1 Containment Purging and Venting During Normal Operation We have reviewed your letter of October 30, 1979 on the above subject and have determined that we presently operate in conformance with your Interim Position.

North Anna Technical Specifications, section 3.6.1.1., Primary Containment Inte-grity, require that the purging and venting valves (MOVs-HV 100A,100B, 100C, 100D, 101 and 102) be closed when the reactor coolant temperature is above 200*F.

Technical Specifications, section 3.6.1.4. , containment Internal Pressure, require the contad~nt to be subatmospheric when the reactor coolant system temperature is above 200*F. For the containment to be maintained subatmospheric, the purging and venting valvas must be closed. Since these valves are maintained in the closed position under any reactor coolant system temperature condition that could result in containment pressurization during a DBA-LOCA, we believe no further action is required.
