Florida Power and Light Company Turkey Point, Unit Nos. 3 and 4 Docket Nos. 50-250 and 50-251 Homestead, Florida

SUBJECT:

UNPLANNED RELEASE OF WATER TO ON-SITE STORM DRAIN At 1:30 p.m. on June 11, about 900 gallons of water overflowed from a waste processing tank to auxiliary building floor drains as a result of an operator error.

Backup of fluid in the floor drain system resultea in the water reaching an on-site storm drain.

This drain system dis-charges to an underground tile bed wholly within the confines of the site boundary.

Sample results indicated that a total of about 0.01 millicuries of cobalt-58 and cobalt-60 was released to the storm drains.

The water had been processed by the radwaste system and was within specification for a controlled release.

Local media interest is expected due to previous attention given this facility.

The licensee is cons'dering a news release.

The State of Florida has been informed.

Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by tele-phone from an onsite inspector at 9:45 a.m. on June 13.

This informa-tion is current as of 11:45 a.m. on June 14.
