Carolina Pawer and Light Company H. B. Robinson, Unit No. 2 Docket No. 50-264 Hartsville, South Carolina

SUBJECT:

CANOPY SEAL WELD LEAKS EXTEND OUTAGE On June 8, during plant heatup3 pinhole leaks were identified on two control rod drive mechanism housing canopy seal welds.

The canopy seal welds had been repaired during the current refueling outage and the leakage was identified during an inspec-tion to verify weld integrity. The canopy seal welds are provided as a leakage barrier between the control rod drive mechanisms and the reactor vessel head; they do not provide structual integrity of the control rod drive mechanism housing.
