PpriTMTWARY NOTIFICATION July 16, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-254 This oreliminarv notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIELE safety or public interest significance. The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

Carolina Power and Light Company H. B. Robinson, Unit No. 2 Docket No. 50-261 Hartsville, South Carolina

SUBJECT:

RETURN TO POWER OPERATION The plant is returning to service following a refueling outage which began on April 18.

During the outage, work was completed on the re-placement of cracked'feedwater nozzles, steam generator tube leakage and canepy _ seal weld leaks on the control rod drive raechanisc housings.

Two or three days of zero power physics testing ~is planned before placing the unit in service.

Media interest is not expected.

The licensee is planning a news release when the unit is returned to service.

A news release is not planned by the NRC.

The State of South Carolina has been informed.

Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the licensee at 2:15 p.m. on July 16.
