[)ocEdtNo.50-317 Mr. A. E. Lundvall, Jr.

Vice President Supply Baltimore Gas & Electric Company P. O. Box 1475 Baltimore, Maryland 21203

Dear Mr. Lundvall:

In recent discussions with your staff, we were informed that the Inservice Inspection (ISI) requirements of 10 CFR 50, Part 50.55a(g) for ASME Code Class 1, & and 3 conponents can be met at Calvert Cliffs Unit No.1.

We were further informed that:

1.

The next 40-month ISI program, correncing on September 8,1978, has been prepared in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(5)(i);

2.

No known conflicts between the code requirements and the current Technical Sr :ifications (TS) exist, so an application for TS changes in accorda with 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(5)(ii) will not be submitted; and 3.

Confomance with essentially all code requirements does not seem to be impractical at this time for Calvert Cliffs Unit No.1.

It has been our position, as documented in our April 28 and November 24, 1976 and January 16, 1978 letters, that fac.ilities should submit a description of their planned ISI program, as well as any request for relief from ASME Code requirenents detemined to be impractical for your facility, at least 90 days before the start of any 40

---+,h ISI period.

Since the submittal due date for the Calvert Cliffs Unit No. i ISI program was last year, we request that Baltimore Gas and Electric reconsider its position on this subject and provide to the NRC, within 50 days of the date of this letter, the ISI program for Calvert Cliffs Unit No.1.

Sincerely, Ol b'$ ~ D
