PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR llNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-426 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.

FACILITIES:
Florida Power Corporation Georgia Power Company Crystal River Unit 3 Hatch Units 1 and 2 Docket No. 50-302 Docket Nos. 50-321 and'50-366 Crystal River, Florida Baxley, Georgia Florida Power and Light Company Turkey Point Unit 3 Docket No. 50-250 Honestead, Flcrida
SUBJECT:
REACTOR TRIPS-On September 14, Crystal River Unit 3 was returned to power operation following an outage which followed several feedwater oscillation initiated reactor trips (Ref. PNG 79-341, 341A, and 3418).
At 7:48 p.m. on September 15 while at 72 percent power, the Crystal River Unit 3 reactor tripped on high reactor coolant system pressure as a result of a runback to minimum speed of one of the two turbine-driven main feedwater pumps.
The feedwater pump went to minimum speed due to trash in the governor control oil system.
All automatic actions and safety systems functioned as designed.
The governor oil system was cleaned.
The unit was returned to operation, and is presently at 79 percent power, proceeding to full power with all systems reportedly functioning normally.
Inspectors are on site reviewing this event and corrective actions taken.
Transmission line fluctuation in Florida caused by the Crystal River Unit 3 trip resulted in loss of the main generator excitation voltage at Hatch 1 and 2.
This resulted in a trip of both units at 7:52 p.m.
All safety systems responded as intended.
Hatch I was restarted and is being limited to 65%.
Hatcn 2 is presently being returned to power operation.
On September 17 at 4:54 a.m., Turkey Point 3 tripped from steady state 100%
power due to a turbine trip believed to be caused by a faulty bellows /diaghram which resulted in a turbine trip on low vacuum.
During the above trip of Turkey Point 3, Hatch 1 was operating at 65% power and did not trip from the transmis-sion line upset induced by the Turkey Point 3 trip.
Similarly, Crystal River 3 picked up additional load and did not trio when Turkey Point 3 tripped.
Turkey Point 3 is back on line holding at 200 MWe.
