In office inspection effort conducted between March 22, 1979 and April 20, 1979 indicated that the licensee had possessed no licensed material since the expiration date of the license (October 31,1978).

It was determined that because the hospital had one patient who used a pacemaker containing licensed material that the license would not be allowed to expire.

A special inspection held on April 23, 1979 confirmed that a license was needed and that no condition of the expired license had been violated since the last previous inspection.

On May 18, 1979 a new license (SNM 1859) was issued to the VA Hospital, San Diego.

Because the new license regulates the same material and facility covered by the old license, no further close-out action is required.
