The U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Cctraission (NRC), in carrying out its responsibility to guard against loss or diversion of strategically impo r ta r.: nuclear materials in the interest of national security, has specified, in Sections 70.5t', 40.54, anc 20.55 of 10 CFR Parts 70, 40, and 30, respectively, requirements for submittal to the NRC of material transfer reports ahenever certain transfers of special nuclear material, source material, or tritium occur.

Reports are recuired for a transfer of one (1) gram or more of contained U-233, U-235, or Pu in special nuclesr material,1,000 kilograms or more of uranium or thorium in source material, or 1,000 curies or more of tritium.

In addition, Sections 70.53, 43.64, and 30.55 of 10 CFR Parts 70, 40, and 30 require semiannual stitements of special nuclear material anc tritium inventories, and annual statements of source material inventories frca licensees authorized to possess more than 350 grams of contained special r,uclear material, more than 10,000 curies of tri'ium, or more than i,000 kilograms of source material, respectivaly.

The NRC utilizes an electronic data processing sy' tem to record these reports. All licensees su jec; :: :nese recorting requirements have been assigned a thrc-letter symbol for icentification.

This Reporting Identification Symco; (RIS) shculd ce used in ccmpleting the transfer forms (NRC/ DOE-741) in accordance with the instruc tions, and should be used in inven:Ory reports and ccher correspondence with tne NRC relative to sucn reports.

The symbol XVZ has ::een assigned as the RIS for ycur activities.

This assignment is for financial pur;cses only until such time you are issued a license by ne RC for possession of any of the materials listed above. Until that time your RIS symcol may a; pear only in blocks 3 and 9 and nct in biccks 6 or 7 of Form :JC/COE-741.
