Dear Mr. Hendrie:

Recent events in the area of nuclear generatic,n have creaned concern for the safe operation of nuclear power plants in Connecticut.

There are currently three operational units in our state, i:wo of which are oown at this time for refueling. These particular u;dta are Mi1L.nione I and Millstone 11 Millstone i is of a similar type to those at Three MiTcc Island and Oyster Creek, Before these plants are allowed to go back on line, I am requesting your full assurance, as Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commiaricon, that these units will be operating as safely as pnas.ible. Specineally, I am requesting

      • Assurances that actions to be taken by licenseca under order of the Nuclear Regulatuiy Commixmion Informatien and 1:nf recement Bullet!as 70-60,79-08A, 79-08B and 79-08 have been fumy i::aple_.cnted by the licensee of the two planta in question;
    • 'Information conce.rning other directives or recommendrations irons the NRC, or from the reactor and equipment manufacturerw. reEarding the safe cperation of these unita; in addition, yru e opinic:n as to whether these directives cr reccmmendations have been.c11 owed:
      • Knowledge of other actions the Nuclear Regulatory Cocmmission anticipates taking concerning nuclear plant operations, e quiptaent and tra.unng programe as a result of the Three liile Islant.d accident and other nuclear incidents;

'A Mr. Joseph Hendrie by 7,1979 Page 2 I believe it is mest important to be candid and open with regard to the development of nuclear power in this country. I do cet wish to give our citizens the impression that problems do not exist with nucJent twwer if indeed they do.

i am specifically asking for your written reply to the issuen I have raised, before the ild1 stone I and llillstone II unita go back en line.

At the same time, mmilar assurances concerning the Connecticut Yankee unit and safety concerns involved in the current construction of.\\lillstone III would be most helpful and appreciated.
