APPLICATION FOR RENEWAL OF SPECIAL NUCLEAR MA'IERIALS LICENSE SNM-942 By this letter, we request that Special Nuclear Materials License, SNM-942 (Docket 70-984), granted to the Pacific Northwest Labora-tories of the Pacific Northwest Division of the Battelle Memorial Institute be renewed for a period of five years.
Ten copies of a complecte revision of the license application, document number PNL-MA -5 2 7, Revision 5, accompany this letter.
Past revisions were assigned the document number BNWL-CC-284.
Revision 5 is dated May 1, 1979 and basically updates Laboratory crganization, nomenclature and descriptive data from the past revisions.
The following is a summary of the significant changes in Part 1:
The list of corporate officers and the financial qualifications of Battelle Memorial Institute have been updated (page 1.1-1 and 1.1-5).
The Battelle cont et numbers with the Department of Energy have been updated throughout the application.
Due to the 1976 revision of 10 CFR 20 caragraph 20.103 and the provisions now stated in 20.10 3 (f), the sub-section in Revision 4 (page 1.2-10) " Airborne Radio-activity Concentrations" has been deleted as an alternate method pursuant to the conditions stated in paragraph 20.10 3 (c) ( 3) prior to November 29, 197F.

Crow 9 May 1979 Page 2 contained in the " Airborne Radioactivity Concentrations" subsection of Revision 4 has been included in section 2.5 of Revision 5.
A request for an exemption from the requirenents stated iri paragraph 20.401(b) of 10 CPR 20 has been added to Sec_ ion 1.2,
" Request for Approval of Altarnate Methods."
This request is contained in subsection " Records of Liquid Waste Disposals," page 1.2-9 The request concerns main-taining records of disposal of licensed materials to the 300 Area Liquid Waste Systeme.
Some of the values listed in Table 1.3-1 (page 1.3-7) have been changed due to improved calcolations.
These changes are very slight and do not represent a significant change in Criticality Safety Procedures.
Section 2.3 contains the latest annual data for gaseous radioactive material releases from major Battelle facilities.
Section 2.8 contains thc latest annual tota! release of liquid radioactive materials to the 300 Area Retention Waste Sewer Sys tem.
