Each of these pum:s is a vertical turbine pump with impellers located in bowls in a sump or a self ccr.tained barrel. The motor (prime cover) is located at the highest pump election to take into account maximum flooding at the site or space considerations. The suction is at the lower end of the pump while the discharge head is just below the driver. Bearings supporting the vertical shaf t segments (unally 5 to 10 segnents) are either self lubricated, force fed (lubricated by fluid being pu. ped), or oil lubricated and maintained within their ewn isol ned systen. These purps are designated as " Deep Draf t" Figures 1&2 show typical cutlines of such pumps. The i,1ternal deficiencies, identified through dimensional and visual inspections were as follows: Low Pressure Core Spray Pumps (I-R Model flo. 29APKD-5) (Date of Manufacture - Feburary 1973) Loose impeller bolts and bolts improperly staked Loose key - key,iay fit Excessive runout on pump shaft Bearing showed wear Bearing clearance exceeded recommended tolerance Coupling thread galled Wear ring clearance out-of-specification Impeller-to-shaf t clearance out of specification Cracks found in second-and-third-stage impellers Stuffing box bushings were severely galled F, ige Pressure Core Spray Pumps (I-R Model No.12X20KD) (Date of Manufacture - Sep' ember 1972) t 3 Bearing clearance exceeded recog g Ucar ring clearance out-of-specl a DUPLICATE DOCUMENT i Bearings showed wear Entire document previously entered into system under: ANO j -3 No. of pages: w' 'dJ v, L_ _ __ _a. _ _.. . _. ~. =:}}
