Appendix B NOTICE OF DEVIATION Public Service of Indiana Docket No. 50-546 Docket No. 50-547 Baaed on the results of the NRC inspection conducted on April 3-6, 1979, it appears that one of your activities is not being conducted in conf ormance with your commitment to the Commission in the PSAR.

-ne following item is a deviation.

Marble Hill PSAR Section 1.7 co==its to Tegulatory Guide 1.19, August 11, 1972, Nondestructive Examination of Primary Containment Liner Welds.

Marble Hill PSAR, Section 3.8.2.6.7, Nondestructive Examination of the Liner Plate Welds, states, in part, that, ".

. all examination procedures will be in accordance with Appendix X to Section III and Section V of the ASME BSPV Code."

(Appendix X to Sectian III and Article 2 of Section V are acceptable methods of meetin' the require-ments of Regulatory Guide 1.19 since their examination requirements are equivalent to those required by the regulatory guide.)

Appendix X to Section III of the ASME Boilar and Pressere Vessel Code Table X-3325.1-1, Standard Penetrameter Sizes, requires that a pene-trameter for weld thickness range of over 1/4" through 3/8" be of a thickness of 0.0075" and designated a No. 7 penetrameter.

The liner plate is 1/4" thick.

Contrary to the above, Sargent and Lundy specification 50. Y-2723, Division 202.2, Subdivision 6.1.1 requires that "The contractor shall perform all radiographic examination in accordance with the require-ments of Article 3, ASME Section V, which requires in Table T-320, Thickness Penetrameter Designations and Essential Holes, that a penetrameter for a single wall material thickness range of over 1/4" through 3/8" be a size No. 12, which has a penetrameter thickness of 0.012".

This No. 12 penetrameter is 60% thicker than the No. 7 penetrameter that is specified in Appendix X to Section III at the ASMI Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
