MEMORANDUM FOR:

D. C. Boyd, Chief, Reactor Projects Section 3 THRU:

A. B. Davis, Chief, Fuel Facility and Materials Safety Branch FROM:

L. R. Greger, Acting Chief, Fuel Facility Projects and Radiation Support Section

SUBJECT:

LICENSE RENEWALS FOR IDENTIFIED RESEARCH REACTORS (AITS H07001937)

The following comments regarding licensees' performance are forwarded per your memorandum of July 20, 1979.

Iowa State University (50-116/R-59)

University of Illinois (50-356/R-117) 1.

Review of the licensee's regulatory performance over the past four years did not reveal any problems. There were no items of noncompliance in the radiation protection and radwaste areas during this period. We have no reason to believe that the licensees' past satisfactory performance in these areas will not be continued in the future.

2.

We know of no items requiring particular NRR review at this time.

3.

We know of no items which should preclude license renewal.

University of Missouri at Rolla (50-123/R-79) 1.

Although there have been four items of noncompliance in the radwaste and radiation protection areas over the past five years, the licensee has responded satisfactorily to our concerns.

The licensee's recent performance in these areas is satisfactory.
