The Georgia Power Company wishes to submit the following information concerning the noncompliances discussed in your inspection report number 50-424/79-13 and 50-425/79-13.

Infraction 50-424,425/79-13-01, " Failure to Calibrate Soils / Concrete Laboratory Scales" - Calibration test weights traceable to the National Bureau of Standards were ordered through an Emergency Purchase Order on July 30, 1979. The weights are scheduled to arrive on site August 30, 1979.

A procedure is being developed for the calibration of laboratory scales.

Full compliance is expected by September 14, 1979.

Infraction 50-424,425/79-13-02, " Improper Concrete Consolidation" -

A training session was held on site July 27, 1979, for Walsh Construction's concrete placement crews and Georgia Power's placement inspection force to demonstrate the proper use of concrete vibrators. Additional " refresher training sessions" are being held bi-monthly and continuous on-the-job instruc-tion is being given to alleviate problems in this area. In addition, a repre-sentative of Portland Cement Association has visited Plant Vogtle to observe concrete placement practices and will make recommendations for improvement in a forthcoming report. Full compliance is expected by September 14, 1979.
