Reference 2 provided test data on pump vibration and ultrasonic tests obtained during the weEL2nd of September 3-5, 1977, and a safety evaluation wherein you ccricluded thJt the pumps are capable of performing their safety functions.

Reference 3 provides your commitment to perform additional testing, examinations, and evaluations to determine the cause of pump shaft failure which occurred at another facility, to increase the monitoring of your pump performanc.e, and to confirm the adequacy of the pump design for +.his application.

It also contained statements from your NSSS Vendor and the pump manufacturer concerning the suitability of these pumps for operation.

SEP 8 1977 Based on tne information provided in References 2 and 3, the examinations described in Reference 1, which were to begin at 8:00 a.m., September 9, 1977, may be deferred.

The need for further examinations will depend upon findings from.the completion of commitments described in Reference 3.
