REPLY TO NRC LETTER DATED AUGUST 8, 1979 NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-217/79-03 AND 50-318/79-07 ITEM A RESPONSE:

Upon notification, the Radiation Safety and Chemistry Group imediately posted the low level radioactive storage trailer, Spent Fuel Storage Room, and storage pad West of Units 1 and 2 Auxiliary Building in accordance with 10CFR20.203.

Additionally, an inspection was performed by Rad-Chem of our entire facility which revealed that no other areas or rooms required similar posting. Particular attention was given this item by reinstruction of all Rad-Chem Technicians by the Radiation Safety and Chemistry Foreman in the requirements of posting radioactive materials storage areas. To aid in ore-venting recurrence of this item procedural change was made to clarify when an area became a radioactive materials storage arca; i.e., whenever radioactive materials that exceed 10 times the quantity of such materials specified in Appendix C of 10CFR20 are intended to be stored in any area for periods greater than twenty-four (24) hours.

Full compliance is considered to have been achieved as of May 24, 1979.
