Docket No. 50-280 Mr. W. L. Proffitt Senior Vice President - Power Virginia Electric and Power Company Post Office Box 26666 Richmond, Virginia 23261
Dear Mr. Proffitt:
The Commission today has issued the enclosed Order -lifting the suspension of facility operation required by the Order to Show Cause dated March 13, 1979, for the Surry Power Station, Unit No.1.
The enclosed Order also confirms and requires certain commitments made by Virginia Electric and Power Company including a commitment to complete reanalysis of piping.
supports outside containment within 60 days of the date of plant start up.
This Order is issued because your reanalysis and modifications of piping deficiencies in safety related systems, along with the operational control required by th. Order, have demonstrated that the Unit No. I can safely withstand the effects of seismic events should they occur in the area.
The basis fo this action is set forth in the Order.
Si ncerely,
