Subject:
Seismic Analyses for As-Built Safety Related Piping Systems
Dear Sir:
'do above-grade or internal building safety class piping has been erected to-date at the Seabrook Station.
Therefore, inspection of the as-built configura-tion of safety related piping is impossible at this time.
However, it is intended that the validity of the seismic analysis of safety related piping at the Seabrook Station be verified in the following manner:
Follcwing the erection of safety related piping systems, the piping erection contractor will prepare as-built drawings of those piping systems.
The as-built drawings will reflect the installed piping configuration, incorporating the latest. design information and the latest revision to the piping desian drawings.
The as-built drawings will be annotated " final, as-built" or the equivalent.
The as-built drawings of the safety class 2 and 3 piping will be transmitted to United Engineers & Constructors, Inc., the architect-engineer.
The information used as input for the seismic analysis of each of these safety related piping systems will be compared to the as-built information to determine the existance of any differences which would affect the validity of the seismic analysis. Where such differences exist, the analysis will be rerun using the final configuration, and if the results are acceptable, 79091'30 @
1 930 an
U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Page 2 SB-8175 the analysis will be noted as final. Where there are no differences between the analysis input and the as-built drawing, the analysis will be noted as final.
The inspection elements to be used by the piping erection contractor in producting as-built drawings are the following:
1.
Pipe run geometry 2.
Eipe support and pipe restraint design, location, function, and clearance.
3.
Floor and wall penetration location and clearance.
4.
Embedments 5.
Pipe attachments 6.
Valve and valve operator location 7.
In-line instrument geometry and location.
Westinghouse Electric Corporation, the NSSS Supplier, is responsible for the seismic analysis of the Reactor Coolant System and all safety class 1 piping connected to the RCS within the containment structure.
The as-built drawings of the safety class 1 piping generated by the Seabrook piping erection contractor will be transmitted to Westinghouse Electric Corporation.
The above detailed procedure will be used by Westinghouse with the safety class 1 as-built information. Westinghouse will use the inspection elements 1 through 7 above in their review of the UE&C produced piping design drawings used by Westinghouse as the basis for their analysis of the Seabrook safety class 1 analysis.
We trust you will find this information satisfactory.
Very truly yours,
Arthur M.
