.urry Monthly Operating Report No. 98-06 FACILITY CHANGES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE NRC APPROVAL Page 10 of 15 MONTHNEAR: June, 1998 Design Change Package (Safety Evaluation 90-189) 06/17/98 DCP 88-37, "ASME Section XI Pump Instrumentation," mounted the ASME Section XI instrumentation off of the process lines or equipment and replaced some instrumentation as needed with more accurate instruments on Unit 1. This eliminated vibration to the instrumentation.

Pressure and flow instrumentation was added to certain pumping systems to facilitate ASME Section XI testing.

Design Change Package (Safety Evaluation 91-012) 06/29/98 DCP 88-38, "ASME Section XI Pump Instrumentation," mounted the ASME Section XI instrumentation off of the process lines or equipment and replaced some instrumentation as needed with more accurate instruments on Unit 2. This eliminated vibration to the instrumentation.

Pressure and flow instrumentation was added to certain pumping systems to facilitate ASME Section XI testing.

Design Change Package (Safety Evaluation 94-171) 06/09/98 DCP 93-063, "Miscellaneous Permanent Shielding Installation/ Surry 1&2," installed lead shielding on various hot spots in the Auxiliary Building for Units 1 &2 to reduce radiation exposure when performing work in the areas.

UFSAR Change Request (Safety Evaluation 98-065) 06/11/98 UFSAR Change Request FS 98-11 supports an update to the description of the feedwater temperature reduction event to be consistent with a new analysis of record. The analysis includes evaluations of different initiating events that can cause a sudden reduction in feedwater temperature.

Temporary Modification (Safety Evaluation 98-066A) 06/12/98 Temporary Modification S2-98-02 installed a Passive Autocatalytic Recombiner in the Unit 2 Containment to maintain the containment Hydrogen concentration less than the design basis limit of 0.8%.

Safety Evaluation 06/25/98 Safety Evaluation 98-067 was performed to assess containment integrity with use of an isolation valve to isolate leak-by from the Unit 2 pressurizer vent valves that was resulting in increased containment hydrogen concentration.

  • method of repair for the Main Turbine #2 Governor Valve that involved power reduction and an alternate method of closing the valve.

Maintenance*Operating Procedure (Safety Evaluation 98-064) 06/11/98 Maintenance Operating Procedure O-MOP-GW-001, "Purging The Outer Tank For 1-GW-TK-1A," was used to procedurally control a temporary modification to purge the outer Waste Gas Decay Tank to allow for maintenance.

Electrical Corrective Maintenance Procedure (Safety Evaluation 97-151, Rev. 1) 06/22/98 Electrical Corrective Maintenance Procedures O-ECM-2202-02, "Reserve Station Service Transformer (RSST) A LCT' Controller Testing With Transformer In Service," and O-ECM-2202-03, "Reserve Station Service Transformer (RSST) B LCT Controller Testing With Transformer In Service," were used to procedurally control a temporary modification to isolate the Automatic Load Tap Changer to enable its removal from service for calibration and to check the required setpoints.

Virginia Power Administrative Procedure (Safety Evaluation 98-068) 06/25/98 Virginia Power Administrative Procedure VPAP-2201, "Nuclear Plant Chemistry Program,"

was revised to ensure that the program is current with the latest industry good practices as recognized in the EPRI chemistry guidelines and to incorporate recent Surry UFSAR revision.
