Tech Branch By letter dated November 4, 1983, you provided a response to Generic Letter 83-28 including Item 4.3, 11 Reactor Trip System Reliability.
11 By letter dated November 15, 1984, we issued our Safety Evaluation which found the design modifications for Item 4.3 to be acceptable except for the following issues:
A.
Final seismic qualifications of the shunt trip attachment; B.
Provision of breaker position indication on the main control board to provide the operator with the status of the reactor trip and bypass breakers; C.
Submission of proposed technical specifications for the Item 4.3 modifications.
By letters dated April 1, September 9, October 7, October 31, and December 30, 1985, you submitted additional information on these issues.
We have reviewed these submittals, except for the proposed technical specifications.
Based on our review we conclude that your responses to Item 4.3 of Generic Letter 83-28 are acceptable.
Our Safety Evaluation is enclosed.
The proposed technical specifications will be evaluated separately.
It is our understanding that this item has been implemented at both Surry units. If this is not the case, please provide us with the expected dates of completing the modifications and actual implementation dates when it is implemented.
