With this application, a total of $8,000 was paid in fees pursuant to 10 CFR 170.22. The application, as revised, was approved by the ONRR staff's issuance of Amendment Nos. 59 and 71 for Surry Unit No. 2 on August 1~ 1980 and June 23, 1981 (respectively) and Amendment No. 71 for Surry Unit No. l on June 23, 1981.

2.

November 14~ 1980 application for Technical Specification changes regarding Lessons Learned, water level over spent fuel and decay heat removal for Unit Nos. 1 and 2. Hith this application, a sum of $4,400 (Class III & I) was paid. This application was partially approved by amendments issued for each unit on May-12, May 22, and September 29, 1981.

Based on information provided by the ONRR staff, the following determinations have been made relating to fees for the above two applications:

l.

The June 30, 1980 application, as revised May 19, 1981, collectively requires fees tota 11 i ng $5,600 {Classes I II, II and I) because the Technical Specifications and reviews were cormnon to both units so Classes III and II, and a single Class I are applicable.

On this basis, your Company is entitled to a refund of $2,400.

2.

The November 14 application will involve consideration of three separate safety issues and, therefore, requires Class IV and Class I fees totalling

$12,700 in lieu of the Class III and I fees which were paid.

In this instance, an additional sum of $8,300 is due the USNRC.

Virginia Electric and Power Company NOV 1 0 1981 As a result of the above fee determinations, in one instance the USNRC is due

$8,300 and in the other a refund of $2,400 is due your Company.

Rather than refund to you the $2,400 for item 1, we are applying it to the $8,300 due for item 2, and request that a total of $5,900 be remitted to this office to complete the sum required for item 2.

We hope your Company finds this trans-action to be an acceptable one. If the ONRR staff's final review for item 2 above reveals that the fees determined herein are not correct, you will be notified and any necessary adjustment will be made.
