This event is cont:rco::,y to Technical Specification 3.3.A.8.b and is reportable per Technical Specifi-cation 6.6.2.b (2).

PROBABLE CONSEQJEN::ES:

The Charging. Pump service water :FUITIP is use:!. to* supply cooling water to the charging p.:rrnp inte:rmerliate seal and lubricating oil coolers.

The re:iundant p.mtp (_2-SW-P-lOB) was operational, therefore *the health and safety of the p.lblic were not affecte:I..

CAUSE

The rerluce:I. pressure was due to material entrained in the water,an::l being deposite:I. on the pump's :impeller.

4.

IMMEDIATE CORRECTIVE ACTION

The irmnerliate corrective action was to verify the redundant p.lit1p in operation and clean the suction strainer for 2-SW-P-lOA.

5.

SOBSEcm;m' CORRECTIVE ACTION:

The subsequent corrective action was to disassemble and clean the p.mtp.

The pump was teste:i and returne:I. to service within the require:!. time l.unit.

ACTIOO TO PREVENT RECURRE:N::E:;

A Design Change is in progress, as a result of the pipe stress analysis program, which will improve the filtration capabilities of the systan.

GENERIC lMPLICATIONS:

The Design Change will address both units.
